Discount Car Rentals

You can shop for car rental rates in several ways. You could check the major car rental companies for prices, or check the online travel websites. We estimate that starting with the travel websites gives you an edge because you can compare rates and companies side by side. Below is our selection:

Important Tips:

  • If you are renting a car in a foreign country, find out the price of gas ahead of time. For example, in France you might pay for one liter of gas, what you pay in the US for one gallon. That’s almost double! It might make sense to rent a smaller car if you want to save on gas.
  • Find out from you car rental company if you need an international driver license. An international driver license is printed in several languages: English, French, Spanish, Russian, Japanese and Chinese as well as German and Arabic. It is also easy to apply for and does not require taking a driving test. If you are a member of AAA, it will cost you about $10 and 2 photos.
  • Do not leave any valuables in a rental car, since it is known that burglars target rented cars.
  • Find out from your credit card company, if they cover the CDW (collision damage waiver) when charging the car rental to their card. It can save you a lot of money.
